Will Leiter
PALO ALTO, CA - Congratulations to Will Leiter of Monte Vista High School and Stephen Hess of Mountain View High School for advancing to the demo round of the Palo Alto Voices Round Robin. Will and Stephen were first and second seeds, respectively. On a 4-1 decision - the round was adjudicated by John McKay, Sonya Mehta, Daniel Sheehan, Alex Smith (who dissented), and a three-person guest panel whose votes were combined and counted as one. (The guest panel of Sophie Asher, Rashmi Rikhy, and Byron Ruby voted 2-1 in favor of Will; Byron was the squirrel.)

Will is coached by David Matley, Larry McGrath, and Ryan Lawrence. Stephen is coached by Eric Palmer and Navot Tidhar.

John McKay, the founder and executive director of the Voices Foundation, notes: “Thanks for all those who came out to judge, many volunteering their time for Voices, and helping us raise over $500 for the foundation. Namely, huge thanks to Thomas Brugato, Ryan Lawrence, Bob Skimmyhorn, Andrew Garvin, Larry McGrath, Shyam Ravindran, Navot Tidhar, and Larry McGrath. Also thanks to Palo Alto High School for letting us use the rooms! Hope everyone had a good time.”

The official web site of the Voices Foundation for the Promotion of High School Debate will be unveiled in the near future.

dude will, you let john take a photo of you and you/sheehan were throwing fits earlier about having pictures taken. =/

and by that, i mean congrats. =)

i’d also like to make a shoutout to john and everyone who volunteered their time to judge - it’s really great how this all came together. besides, hanging out at stanford in john’s giant room is hella more fun than staying at berkeley and being bombarded by the 490582 ppl who went for cal day.
