posted by Jon Cruz on December 11th, 2004

Hen Hud co-champions Jon Gordon and Matt Shields

Jersey was definitely representing at this tournament; and Greg and Rushabh, who i’m pretty sure are both just sophomores, are really legit…

Congratulations to Matt and Jon (and to Joe)!

I would just like to say that Greg Hertz is a FORCE. He is currently a sophomore. Keep your eye out for him.

I’d like to thank Eric Insler for helping attempt me to find an Internet connection throughtout the tournament.

Re: Hen Hud, Alta - As soon as results come in, we’ll get them up here!

Re: Crappy Prizes - Sadly, Josh, there was no crappy prize for me. But every double-octafinalist received one!

I think the 33rd place prize was some Star Wars DVD. Word on the street is Jon Cruz was jealous…

Scarsdale Boys PUT ON SUITS COME ON !

But in all seriousness, congratulations to both of you. It’s nice to see some Jewish Boys from NY getting debate trophies as their Hanukah Gelt

“Matt and Jon are coached by Joe Vaughan.”

Unless these two negated in every round, that sentence needs to be amended. :)

But in all seriousness, congratulations to Jon and Matt (and to Mike and Dave) on their win. This is Matt’s fifth final round of the year, and the second time he’s won a quarters bid as first speaker and first seed. That’s just ridiculous.

Also, a Scarsdale debater has won this tournament each of the past four years, and Scarsdale has received 10 bids there in those four years. I can’t think of any such streak at any other tournament by any other school; I’d be interested to know if any exists.
Congratulations to everyone who cleared at Hen Hud!

the Cruz-Hamilton endeavor in octas was clearly the most legitimate panel to have ever existed.

Another congratulations is in store for Matt Shields, who in addition to being co-champion of the debate tournament, also won the Hen Hud dreidel tournament over David Salant, solidifying himself as both the best debater AND the best Jew at Hen Hud.

the prize for 33rd seed was a star trek book about klingons. i’m sure taresh wouldn’t mind lending it to anybody who’s jealous.
