What happened to 171? I assume they’re neg against 146 since they’re both undefeated, not listed and due opposite sides.

Curiousity, in LD, debaters generally have to speak slower and be really nice and all in order to win because many of the judges are parent judges or people with less experience. In Policy (which is typically characterized by really, really fast speaking that I probably couldn’t even flow) do the debaters tend to speak slower?/ what kind of adaptions must be made to do Policy debate at Nationals?

I watched Policy finals in Atlanta last summer, and while both teams did keep relatively fast speaking paces, they weren’t impossible to understand.

But that’s just me, watching the final round.

Rounds can range from full on fast in prelims to slow as hell; i know in the round between 180 and 154 there are 3 lay judges including one communiciations judge (wants u to speak pretty)

I am always surprised to hear how uncommon speed is in some areas of the country when it comes to policy.

Some of the policy rounds here have been debated incredibly slow, and I mean incredibly slow by LD standards. (The final round I saw for 10 minutes at Emory in policy was practically the slowest round I have ever seen in any event.) Others have been debated quite fast.

There have to be a couple things missing

    146 vs. 171 College Prep RS-Brookings CW
    Bye 155–Hutchinson BR

Can someone confirm that these rounds also took place in Round 10?

I think that one of the missing codes could possibly be the other SFL team. There are 3 SFL teams, and 104, and 105 were two of them….however, the codes 103 and 106 belong to totally different schools…possibly there was a miscoding, because there are 3 SFL teams at Nationals and I keep hearing that 2 are still in and one is out which is SFL 104 SB

If my original posts were correct, there are a couple of pairings left off of the Round 10 schedule.

These should be the missing rounds

146-171 College Prep RS v. Brookings CW
155-213 Hutchinson BR v. Round Rock HR

Can somebody confirm these 2 rounds took place during Round 10 and, if so, who won?

It appears that Blue Valley NW was pulled up to debate Bellarmine DS round 10. Since Bellarmine won, that means there should be 5 undefeateds left and 13 teams down 1.

Here is my best guesses as to records:

Undefeated: GBN NS, Bellarmine DS, GBN RZ, CR Wash BV and the winner of the Brookings CW/College Prep RS round.

Down 1: Fremont ST, Worland RS, Bishop Guertin EP, 221 (who are you??), Galveston Ball PS, Weston BK, Manhattan JL, Olathe South SS, Morgan Park, Brophy KS, Bellarmine SW, loser of the Brookings CW/College Prep RS round, winner of Hutchinson BR/Round Rock HR round.

    Confirmations?

This should be the official Round 10 policy results. Please let me know if there are errors. It is much easier to do this if VB people post ALL (I REPEAT–ALL) the rounds on the schedule!!

    Undefeateds

121 def. 103 GBN NS defeats Bishop Guertin EP
120 def. 204 GBN RZ defeats Olathe South SS
264 def. 181 CR Wash BV defeats Bellarmine SW
146 def. 171 College Prep RS defeats Brookings CW

    Pull-up

180 def. 154 Bellarmine DS eliminates Blue Valley NW CL

(Blue Valley was pulled up to hit an undefeated Bellarmine team)

    Down ones

136 def. 105 Fremont ST eliminates SFL
285 def. 248 Worland RS eliminates Nevada Union AR
221 def. 107 MBA CW eliminates GR GL
256 def. 127 Galveston Ball PS eliminates Neenah DD
159 def. 108 Weston BK eliminates Park Hill South
    294 def. 265 Manhattan JL eliminates ??
150 def. 106 Morgan Park eliminates GR EM
178 def. 177 Brophy KS eliminates Cheyenne East JP
213 def. 155 Round Rock HR eliminates Hutchinson BR

That should leave 18 teams (5 undefeated and 13 down ones). Most likely there will be 5 rounds today but there is one scenario that gets it done in 4 rounds and one that gets it done in 6.

So, if GBN NS wins, there are no more rounds tonight. They are in finals and the winner of the GBN RZ-CPS RS debate is also in finals.

If GBN NS loses, there are three teams left. GBN NS, Brophy and the winner of the GBN RZ-CPS RS round. A bye is drawn sending one team to finals. The other two teams debate for the last slot.

I believe the bye is the first thing done and is done irrespective of what that means for the remaining round. Thus, assuming Brophy has not yet had a bye, they could draw the bye and force a GBN-GBN debate with the winner going to finals.
