Get Well, Clinton Taylor
MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. — Clinton Taylor of Mountain Brook High School was involved in an automobile accident shortly after midnight on Saturday and is currently at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Clinton has a broken right femur, head injuries and has not yet regained consciousness. He is currently in stable condition and appears to have no damage to any of his internal organs.
His teammate Mims Windham was also in the car but was not seriously injured. Clinton’s family has asked for the community’s prayers and good wishes for a speedy recovery.

Newark — Finals: William Allen’s Charles Chy defeated Monticello’s Dan Cook on a 6-5 decision.
Newark Round Robin — Finals: Greenhill’s Tanya Thanawalla defeated William Allen’s Charles Chy on a 5-0 decision.
Scarsdale — Finals: Bronx Science’s Carolyn Clendenin and Bobby Esnard closed out.

Bronx Science Closes Out Scarsdale Invitational
SCARSDALE, N.Y. — The sixth annual Scarsdale Invitational drew debaters from across Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York for two days of intense competition in Westchester County.
This year’s tournament featured no final round, as both finalists hailed from the Bronx High School of Science: Carolyn Clendenin and Bobby Esnard are this year’s co-champions. Congratulations to both!

Charles Chy Wins Newark
NEWARK, N.J. — This season’s Newark City Invitational marked a celebration of thirty years of debate in the Brick City. Competition at Newark Science Park High School concluded with a final round that brought together Monticello High School’s Dan Cook and William Allen High School’s Charles Chy. The two debated in front of a panel of eleven distinguished Newark Science alumni and other experienced critics. On a 6-5 decision, Charles bested Dan to take the title. Congratulations to both debaters!
Earlier in the celebration of Newark debate, Aaron Timmons received the inaugural Vernell Copeland Farrand Friendship Award and Greenhill’s Tanya Thanawalla won the inaugural Newark Round Robin. (more…)

Claire Daviss Wins Colleyville Heritage
COLLEYVILLE HERITAGE, Tex. — Southlake Carroll High School’s Cathy Creighton and Winston Churchill High School’s Claire Daviss were the varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate finalists at the fourteenth annual the Colleyville Heritage Winter Invitational.
Katie Dessi, Owen Wilson-Chavez, Bekah Boyer, Tyler Levy, and Tom Lorinc adjudicated the final round. Ultimately, Claire defeated Cathy on a 4-1 decision — Levy dissented — to take the tournament. Congratulations to both debaters! (more…)

Jacob Nails Wins Mountain Brook
MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. — The varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate final round at this year’s Betty Gunn Invitational at Mountain Brook High School featured Starr’s Mill High School’s Jacob Nails and the Donoho School’s Vinay Giri. Aaron Timmons Wins Vernell Copeland Farrand Friendship Award
NEWARK, N.J. — In honor of thirty years of debate in Newark, Jon Cruz and Richard B. Sodikow donated an award in recognition of the long-standing friendship between the Bronx High School of Science and Newark Science High School (now Newark Science Park High School).
The Vernell Copeland Farrand Friendship Award — named for the wife of long-time Newark coach Brent Farrand — was established to recognize supporters of the Newark debate community. The first presentation of this award was made to Aaron Timmons. Congratulations!

Tanya Thanawalla Wins the Newark Round Robin
NEWARK, N.J. — The first annual Newark Round Robin featured sixteen debaters from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia, who competed over two days at Newark Science Park High School to vie for the title.
Ultimately, that title went to Greenhill School’s Tanya Thanawalla, who defeated William Allen High School’s Charles Chy on a 5-0 decision to win the round robin. Congratulations to both debaters! (more…)
